Tiresias
Jan pays an unlicensed back-alley surgeon, Cleopatra, to regenerate his vision. We follow him deeper and deeper into both an affair with the flirtatious doctor as well as a strange conspiracy that may involve her. Tiresias is a Sci-Fi and Horror feature film written and directed by Charlie Compton, and produced by Heather Landsman, Mayaan Milchan, and Ella Weston. I served as the Cinematographer for the project.
As the Cinematographer,
We wanted to give the film a visually distinct style. Charlie came up with the idea of “the accordion”, widening the shot when we shot close-ups and tightening when we shot wides. I refined it to be standard lens medium-wide shots and wide angled close-ups that would be shot in a circular rhythm to reflect the fibonacci sequence that inspired the structure of the story. We wanted the lighting of each location to be distinct, from the overhead sound stage lighting of the lab to the singularly lit outdoor scenes. My references for this project were Inland Empire, Possession, La Jetée, and Atman.
Stills from the Film
This shot shows the wideness of the close-ups we shot for the film, stretching and distorting the actors.
This shot highlights how the outdoor scenes would be lit by a single light source of light.
Tiresias is currently being submitted for film festivals and should be available soon.
